The URL for the site is as follows (click on it to go there):

This is an interesting site and we will use it occasionally to reinforce what you have learned. This is also a good site for you to review the terms, concepts and issues discussed in the book. The site includes multiple choice questions as well as essay questions which you will complete and email to me

The site is divided into the chapters of the book and then further divided into following headings, found on the left hand side of the web page:

Note the explanations below refer to Chapter 1.

Objectives

This section just gives you the objectives of the chapter.

Concept Review

In Concept Review, the exercises will test your knowledge of the basic concepts and ideas offered in Chapter 1, Basic Concepts. By successfully reviewing these concepts, you will reinforce your comprehension of these geographic ideas.

Note: at the end or bottom of this section you will see two activation buttons.

1. Clear Answers/Start Over

2. Submit Answers for Grading

I am interested in #2. When this button is activated (clicked on), your exercise will be marked and the right and wrong answers will be given to you. This is great for review! You can print them out for future reference. Further down that page you have the ability to email me (the Instructor) the results as well. The results will only count as homework for completion(since you can do the exercise over and over), what will count is that you complete the exercise. On occasion I will ask you to do some of the excercises on this site and email me your results. Some sections have space for a short answer question. The site will not mark these, but you can email them to me, this time for a real homework mark. I will notify you when I would like you to do this as well.

Thinking Spatially

In Thinking Spatially, the exercises are designed for critical analysis of your textbook's maps and graphs, as well as to provide you with some experience in the interpretation of maps. I encourage you to have available a good world atlas when answering these questions.

Quick Review

This Quick Review exercise is designed to reinforce the knowledge you gained while reading Chapter 1, Basic Concepts.

Reviewing Concepts

In Reviewing Concepts, the essays provide another opportunity for enhancement and reinforcement of the ideas presented in Chapter 1, Basic Concepts. Cite specific items from your reference material to support your answers.

Short Essay

In the Short Essay section you simply answer a short essay (maybe more) again to reinforce what you have learned in the chapter.

Critical Thinking

In Critical Thinking, essays are designed with two objectives in mind:

Destinations

In keeping with the theme of Chapter 1, the Destinations offered here are designed to demonstrate just how exciting the discipline of geography is. These sites exemplify the many concepts presented in Basic Concepts.

GeoSearch

The search terms found here come from the Key Terms listed at the end of Chapter 1, Basic Concepts. A GeoSearch on these terms will provide you with a more indepth explanation. Please use different search engines as you search the Internet since each of these engines have their particular strengths.

Global Issues

Since one of the themes of the entire book is Globalization, the following Issues appear for each chapter. We may use these for our some of our Case Studies.

Study Guides and Strategies

Whether you're an absolute beginner or a seasoned learner, Study Guides and Strategies will be a highly useful resource that provides the required information and methods for a successful and fulfilling university or college education. Each chapter has the same info for this section. Inside this site is information on:

Bibligraphy and Citations

This section contains a link with all of the resources that were used for each chapter.

Profile

A profile lets you store the names and email addresses of the people to whom you send your quiz results from this website so that you don't have to type that information for every quiz. To create a new profile, enter your information below and click Save Profile.

I strongly recommend you fill in this section.
