| I traveled to Jamaica in the Summer
of 2005. Jamaica is a beautiful island with high mountain peaks and
stunning beaches. It is a wonderful place to visit on a cruise or
to enjoy at a beach hotel. I am sure I will have the opportunity to
return to Jamaica in the future. |

Jamaica
gained full independence within the British Commonwealth in
1962. Deteriorating economic conditions during the 1970s led to
recurrent violence and a drop off in tourism. Elections in 1980 saw the
democratic socialists voted out of office. Political violence marred
